Naim are pleased to present the latest collection from the Allegri Quartet; their third album to have been recorded with us. They have chosen to perform works that were composed in three different centuries; an illustration of their expertise in interpretation.
Haydn, easily the most famous composer of the 1700s, wrote this piece for four strings as a commission to the Spanish. A charismatic quartet which is a reflection of the nature of this pivotal classical writer.
Schostakovich is considered to be the main Russian composer of the twentieth century, and the Allegris have chosen to play the third of his fifteen string quartets.
Schumann completes this trio of composers with his third – and arguably his finest – quartet having been chosen for this particular recording
This disc was recorded by Ken Christianson in the Jacquelin du Pre Music Building at St Hilda’s College, Oxford. This venue was chosen for it’s size and acoustic tributes, which were vital to the finished recording.
The combination of Ken’s ability and the Allegri Quartet’s international renown make this a CD not to be missed.
