The Choir Record of the Year! SKRUK and Nymark Collective have recorded a wonderfully captivating choir record that powerfully and tenderly highlights what the SKRUK choir is all about. This album presents Norwegian popular religious songs based on the melodious jazz tradition that continues to enjoy great popularity in the Scandinavian countries. Perhaps you remember the quietly intense swing of "Jazz på svenska" (Jazz in Swedish) by Swedish jazz piano player Jan Johansson? Or "Choir in Folkton"? Then you have an idea of the sound of SKRUK with various soloists on this record together with the smooth Nymark Collective band, and its good mix of solid and innovative musicians who have great respect for folk music and hymn traditions. One of the foremost Norwegian choirs has given us a record that has all the hallmarks of a classic. The repertoire includes "Dype, stille, sterke, milde" (Deep, Still, Strong, Mild), "Klippe du som brast for meg" (Thou rock that burst asunder), "Han skal åpne perleporten" (He shall open the pearly gates) and "Nærmere deg min Gud!"
