FØR OLJÅ KOM- RYFYLKE VISEGRUPPE

All the material on the CD was collected from the Ryfylke district in the 19th and 20th centuries. Most come from the collections of Holger Barkved, and had never previously been published. These are quiet and unhurried songs performed in the local dialect, songs that have been passed on from generation to generation for centuries. From hymns, spiritual songs and love songs to lullabies, they are performed in a harmonious low-key manner. The record features many string instruments such as mandolin, guitar and fiddle, and also accordion and treble recorder, all played with the gusty joy of the folk music tradition. Some elements from Irish music also weave their way in and out of the music here and there. On its original release the record was appreciated for its original folk music in combination with the modern folk music style and musical accompaniment. The group received the Norwegian Prøysen Music Award in 1981 for this release.
