Jozef Wieniawski ws born in Lublin. He began playing the piano at age 5, with the first teacher being his mother. Next he was given lessons from Franciszek Synek. The boy's comprehensive education was first provided at home, then, from early August 1846, in the junior high school in Lublin. Jozef attended the school only for two months, as already in October he and his mother left for the capital of France, where they joined Jozef's older brother Henryk. The nine-year-old Jozef enrolled on the Paris Conservatory, where he studied under Pierre Zimmermann (counterpoint, fugue, and piano), Charles Alkan (composition and chamber music), and Antoine Marmontel (piano). His premiere public performance, together with his brother Henryk, took place at the Salle Sax on 12 February 1848. Jozef completed his studies at the Conservatory in July 1850, receiving the first prize in his class (the Premier Grand Prix). He took the opportunity to practise along Ferenc Liszt since April 1853...
