BIOGRAPHY:
"Vega was formed in Stockholm, Sweden in 1998 by singer and songwriter Nils-Erik Sandberg and double bass player Johan Berthling with the intention to write beautiful songs and perform them in a hauntingly slow fashion. Their first single "How I feel/Hotel II" was reviewed as "a soundtrack for a funeral" by a Swedish rock magazine. In 1999 and 2000 Ulf Stureson, guitar, Tomas Hallonsten, piano and Erik Hammarström, drums joined the band and Vega became a quintet. The release of the debut album "For retarded lovers" in 2001 broadened the musical horizon of the band. Jari Haapalainen (Ed Harcourt), who had been a fan of the band for some time, was asked to produce the album and with help from sound engineer, Pelle Gunnerfeldt (The Hives), he put Vega in an atmosphere where bands such as Big Star, Mercury Rev and Tindersticks would feel at home. The album with chaotic drums, beautiful arrangements and live vocals immediately became a favorite among Swedish critics.
Their second album "Sole Love" was released in March 2004. Once again Vega take their music to a new level and once again, Jari Haapalainen and Pelle Gunnerfeldt help with the quality check. Sole love is an album filled with melancholy duets and devastatingly lush pop symphonies. The album puts love into focus and guest vocalist Ellekari Larsson (The Tiny) and Nils-Erik Sandberg share a passion that is decidedly spooky for all its heartache, heartbreak and heartwarming charm. The contagious, intoxicating first single "Shake up your soul" - featuring Ellekari - is just one of the great songs of the album."
